About Acne Scars

No matter how severe, acne scars can be improved. Put your best face forward and take steps toward achieving skin free of acne scars.

Acne scarring occurs due to abnormal collagen production and organization during the healing process. This can lead to pits, uneven skin texture, redness, and pigmentation. Treatments are tailored to address these concerns and often combine multiple approaches for optimal results.

At Dr. Ali Cosmetics, our experienced team will carefully plan and document a personalized treatment plan for your unique scarring. The options may include:

  • Subcision: Lifts pitted scars by releasing deep attachments.
  • Laser Skin Resurfacing: Reduces redness, pigmentation, and texture irregularities.
  • Dermal Fillers: Lifts and contours rolling scars.
  • Biological Stimulating Injections: Promotes collagen production and stem cell growth to renew skin.
  • Dermapen™ Skin Needling: Triggers intense healing to smooth problem areas.
  • TCA Cross: Resurfaces deep acne scar pits.
  • Advanced Laser/Subcision Protocols: Performed by expert doctors specializing in acne scar reduction.

Acne Scar Treatments

Combining treatments is often the most effective approach for acne scars. Your treatment plan may include:

  • Skin Resurfacing Laser: Smooths and resurfaces damaged skin while reducing redness.
  • Subcision: Releases deep scar tissue causing tethered scars.
  • Radiofrequency Skin Needling: Improves skin quality and tightness while addressing scars.
  • TCA Cross: Ideal for deep icepick and boxcar scars.
  • LED Light Therapy: Speeds healing and reduces bruising post-subcision.
  • Dermal Fillers: Replaces volume loss and smooths scar depressions, restoring the skin to its pre-acne state.

Leading Acne Scar Reduction

  • Laser Skin Resurfacing: A gentler option requiring minimal downtime, typically 1-2 days of redness. Noticeable results with 3-5 sessions spaced one month apart.
  • TCA Cross: Performed by experienced doctors, this gold standard method targets deep scars.
  • Dermal Fillers: Corrects volume loss and skin depressions caused by severe acne scarring.

At Dr. Ali Cosmetics, we offer a comprehensive range of treatments, including lasers, chemical peels, fillers, subcision, and excision. Every treatment is personalized to suit your unique scars. Complimentary consultations with our doctors, nurses, and dermal therapists are available with no obligation.

Why Choose Dr Ali Cosmetics?

At Dr Ali Cosmetics, we are committed to providing safe, effective, and professional cosmetic care in Sydney. Our team of experts ensures every treatment is tailored to meet your needs and deliver the best possible results.

Here’s why our patients trust us:

  • Icepick Scars: Narrow, deep scars extending into the subcutaneous tissue.
  • Rolling Scars: Shallow, undulating scars caused by fibrous tissue pulling the skin down. Fat loss often contributes to skin depressions, which can be improved with fillers.
  • Boxcar Scars: Round or square depressions with sharp edges.
  • Hypertrophic Scars: Raised red scars caused by excessive collagen production.
  • Post-Inflammatory Erythema (Redness): A common condition where inflammation leaves redness after acne heals. Treatments like vascular laser, pulse dye laser, intense pulsed light, or Nd:YAG laser can remove this redness.

Quick answers to questions you may have

Acne scarring happens when your skin produces too much collagen while healing from acne. It can get worse if pimples are popped. Different types of scars include rolling, ice-pick, and boxcar scars, and each type needs different treatments. Redness and pigmentation can also occur after inflammation and may last for years, which can be treated with our laser therapies.

With our personalised acne scar treatments, most people see a 70-80% improvement. During your free consultation, our expert cosmetic doctor will discuss what results you can expect.

We use several types of lasers, including:

  • Fraxel laser: Great for most acne scars and skin types.
  • Icon Max G IPL: Best for lighter skin types with redness from acne healing.
  • 1064 Nd:YAG laser: Ideal for darker skin to reduce redness and stimulate collagen.
  • Revlite q-switch laser: Works well for collagen stimulation and pigmentation in darker skin.
  • Morpheus Radiofrequency Skin Needling: Targets deeper layers for atrophic and rolling scars.
  • Icon 1540 fractional non-ablative laser: A less aggressive option for those with less downtime.

Fractional lasers create tiny columns in your skin to treat scars. The laser stimulates collagen production, which helps renew and tighten scar tissue. This treatment has less downtime and gives similar results to more intense lasers.

The treatment is minimally uncomfortable. We use numbing cream, and cold compresses can help with any discomfort. After the treatment, you might feel a sunburn sensation for a day or two.

Laser resurfacing is very safe with rare risks. Redness or a sunburn-like sensation is common, and sometimes blistering can occur, but it heals quickly. Rarely, people with darker skin may experience pigmentation changes

Downtime varies depending on the laser used. Typically, you’ll experience 2-7 days of redness and mild discomfort. More aggressive treatments may have longer recovery times.

Usually, 3-5 treatments spaced 1-2 months apart will be needed. The exact number depends on your skin type, the severity of your scars, and your tolerance for downtime.

Radiofrequency skin needling uses tiny needles to deliver energy deep into the skin, treating acne scars without damaging the outer layers. It’s great for severe scars and delivers better results than fractional lasers.

There’s minimal discomfort with this treatment when numbing cream is applied. You can also use happy gas (nitrous oxide) and cold compresses to reduce any discomfort.

Expect mild redness and swelling for 1-2 days after the treatment. It’s much quicker than fractional lasers, which can take 3-5 days to heal.

Yes, subcision cuts through the scar tissue, which allows the skin to lift and smooth out over time

You’ll start seeing improvement in 2-4 weeks, with full results in 3 months.
